Training Format:

In consultation with your company/corporation, training materials will include items such as course outlines, training aids (handouts/videos), manuals, and case studies. There will also be small group discussions or large group activities and a hands-on approach allowing for interaction and reinforcement of learning.
All training will consider the various ways in which adults learn and are motivated to learn and thus utilize methods that facilitate progression and competency.

At Training Solutions we are committed to the following principles of Adult Learning based on the work of Malcolm Knowles, a well known contributor to Adult Education:

  • allow self direction and independence
  • build on experience and connect learning
  • provide well organized and well defined programs
  • provide relevancy and application
  • focus on what is most useful
  • adults have both internal and external motivations to learn

We believe that quality training should involve the learners and invite their knowledge into the training sessions. Adults bring with them "a collection of experiences, skills and knowledge that are going to influence how new ideas are received, how new skills are acquired and how the experiences of others are interpreted" (Brookfield, 1986). It is necessary to create an open atmosphere where discussion, interpretation and the challenging of new ideas can safely occur. It is important to vary the delivery methods to include not only a transference of information to the learners (lecture) but also, where appropriate, discussion, practice exercises, and activities applicable to the situation.

At Training Solutions we use a multi-faceted approach to curriculum design incorporating the following important elements into training:

  • a Learner Centered approach: aimed at personal development and increasing ability
  • a Society Centered approach: aimed at highly trained staff
  • a Subject Centered approach: aimed at knowledge, theory and application to the job
This method of Curriculum Design brings wholeness, integrity and comprehensiveness to each training session. When Training Solutions plans content, we are observant to the needs, goals and constraints of the training; the desired learning outcomes; content that is meaningful and applicable to the job; available resources; learner profiles; strategies and evaluation. Training Solutions uses feedback arising from the training evaluation to make ongoing revisions to the curriculum to ensure learner and corporate needs are met.
